At this site on 25 June 1941, German soldiers and SS personnel, led by Gestapo officers and Pranas Jakys, head of the State Security Police of Kretinga District, shot about 180 men of the Kretinga Jewish community as well as 34 Lithuanians.
From July to September, Jewish residents of Kretinga confined at the Pryšmančiai manor were killed here, as well as about 50 Jewish residents of Skuodas held at the Kretinga jail along with several Lithuanians. The number of Jewish victims according to the data of various researchers ranges from 180 to 700 persons.
The grave of the victims of the mass killings is marked with a cube-shaped stone monument built in 1961, to which 2 black stone memorial plaques have been affixed. On one of them, the following inscription has been engraved: IN MEMORY OF THE VICTIMS OF FASCISM IN 1941. On the other memorial plaque, there is the Star of David, and under it there is an inscription in Yiddish and Lithuanian.
